Product Review: Gardman Wild Birdcare for Kids

Good morning Gardman; it’s a thumbs up from Christies of Fochabers!

This month, we were asked to try out the Gardman ‘Wild Bird Care for Kids’ Range as a family. And so, off we went with the following:

Gardman Paint Your Own Feeder £4.99
Gardman Feeding Station £9.99
Gardman Seed Feeder £4.99
Gardman Peanuts for Wild Birds £2.99
Gardman Seed Mix for Wild Birds £1.99

Let’s just be honest, shall we? This range is just as much fun for the grown-ups as it is for our kids.

The Paint Your Own Feeder is fantastic value for money and just a brilliant way to spark a family’s creative side. We didn’t stop at the supplied paints: we used some of our indoor paint testers from the shed, outdoor paint varnish and spent a morning (or two) picking up some small pieces of drift wood from the beach to stick on. If you’re looking for a family project that takes a bit of time, this little feeder is it!

We’re still not finished ours – since we live on the coast, we’re hoping to add shells and make it into a real little beach hut. And the best thing? This is a craft project that’s actually useful and not going to end up in the bin any time soon.

Our wee one is excited seeing the (half)-finished feeder on the stand and is genuinely curious to see which birds will come dine with us first.

The Wild Bird Seed and Peanuts are, well, wild bird seed and peanuts. As part of a gift, the colours and illustrations on the packaging are modern and appealing to any family member.

The Feeding Station is also seriously cool, we have to admit. The pole and accessories are sturdy, brightly coloured and fun – who doesn’t want to wash out the dinky wee bird bath and check that ground-feeding birds have enough to eat too? And, more to the point, which bird wouldn’t want to bathe and feed here? Again, good value for money, doesn’t take up much space in the garden and can be moved around easiy.

Another nice touch for families is the very simple piece of paper that Gardman include in the Feeding Station box, illustrating the types of birds that the children (the adults know all the birds, right?) can expect to see coming to the Feeding Station. The company seem genuinely interested in educating us about wild birds. Another wee plus in our books!

So, top marks. A great family product, including creative fun and some educational bird-watching. Dare we mention that it would make a great family Christmas Gift/Project?
