This month, we wanted to write about our lovely staff member, Kate Walker, who has been with us for 14 years and works hard as our Front of House Supervisor.
Due to her hard work and positive attitude, we asked Kate – on behalf of Christies – to present the MFR Volunteer of the Year Award which we are proud to sponsor this year.
And what a night. Here’s what Kate has to say:
Kate, you look amazing for having been out late! How was last night at the MFR Awards?
The whole night was absolutely brilliant. Pipe-bands, red carpets and Travis! Only three people knew Travis were performing so what a terrific surprise it was. The atmosphere was amazing: everyone was welcoming and we were all treated like royalty.
I was also a bag of nerves – I can talk to anyone behind my counter at Christies – but standing up at a red-carpet event in front of 150 people and representing Christies? I did it though! I presented Neil Kinnon with his Volunteer of the Year Award, what a really nice man. He volunteers as a Community Bus Driver and takes house-bound people out and about.
And I got my photo with Gino from MFR, he cheers me up every morning on the radio so that was a real highlight for me. We did find his stage spot on the floor with his name on it… but it was terrific to get a photo with the man himself.
How have you enjoyed working for Christies in general?
Working here is something I’ve always enjoyed. My confidence has really grown over the years, I love the daily banter with customers and there are so many nice staff, we have a good team. I feel we are treated fairly and are always given time when things need to be sorted out.
Was last night a career highlight for you?
Most definitely. I have loads of highlights working here. My 50th birthday surprise was another one. Every single one of the Kitchen Staff (and others!) surprised me with a do at the Laichmoray! I still can’t work out how they kept it a secret; I was only supposed to be going out with Sam, our General Manager, for a drink. And the comments on Facebook were all lovely, I was blown away.
Another highlight is my daughter working for Christies too and I’m very proud that she has done so well as Assistant Retail Manager.
How would you describe Christies’ customers?
I have formed a lot of friendships with our customers over the years; when you see people every day, you get to know them well. For some people, we are the only company they have all day so it’s nice to know we make a difference in their lives. We have some amazing and very thoughtful people come through our doors.
Congratulations on a job well done Kate, and thank you from all of us at Christies.
